Welcome Back!
Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year. For me, it's "welcome back" to this blog! I have not been here since 2016, and I enjoyed looking at it tonight! The pictures showed me that my students have grown, and some have moved away. I love looking at their smiling faces, and remembering milestones they reached years ago! I also laughed aloud when I read the "student quotes" section. Kids are the best!
A goal of mine this year is to return and post pictures or a blog entry monthly. You can keep me accountable...it can be a tricky goal since we already post to SeeSaw and other places. But this is a place I can WRITE, which is a hobby of mine. I think it's good for my students to see that I enjoy writing, and that it has many purposes.

Here's my room. Many people don't quite understand what my job is, so I'll try to explain. I teach special education, but my students are in six different rooms (2 sections each of Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades). About half of my day is spent in one of those rooms, usually running a station that includes my students, and maybe some others. I really enjoy teaching in the inclusion setting for several reasons. It's good for my students to be with their peers, and be following the grade level curriculum, with some modifications and accommodations I make here and there. When my students need some support with social skills, I can easily address that in their classroom, their natural environment. I also really enjoy how much I move from room to room throughout the day. It sure makes it interesting!
I get the best of both worlds because when students need more intense instruction in certain areas, I have it built into my schedule to teach them in my own classroom, with my own resources. This is my 13th year of teaching, and each year I tweak things in my room to make it (what I hope) is better than the last.

This is our social contract that my second graders wrote together. We refer to the things on this list often; I'd say it's the heartbeat of our environment.
This is my favorite "Growth Mindset" quote and it's posted on my classroom door. It's SO good for my kids. Perseverance might be my favorite Spartan Skill!
